In my previous blog post, I mentioned that our links sent to our Facebook page via WordPress’s Publicize service were not working. After submitting a bug report to WordPress, it appears that new posts now have the correct URL (link). This did not fix the old links, however. I did add a plugin to WordPress that tries to guess what page you were trying to go to. Sometimes it will forward you to the correct page, and other times it will give you a list of 5 pages it thinks you might mean. At least that is better than a 404 not found page. (Technically it is the 404 not found page, just with suggestions on it). Hopefully there will be no more bugs and you can enjoy our recipes as much as we do.

We found another issue that is a bit annoying. All of the links we posted to Facebook about our new recipes and blog posts are wrong. We are using WordPress’ JetPack Publicize plugin to automatically announce new posts on Facebook and Twitter. For some reasons it posts the correct link to Twitter, yet posts an incorrect link to Facebook. For example, all of our Facebook links look something like this: http://shyhomechef.com/chicken-sinigang-2/?fb_source=pubv1 While the correct URL should be: http://shyhomechef.com/recipes/withimage/chicken-sinigang-2/ The issue appears to be with the category missing from the URL (the “recipes/withimages/” part). If it is missing from the URL, it goes to the 404 page. We are looking for a way to resolve this and have contacted WordPress for support. In the meantime, we installed a plugin called 404 Redirected (author website) to list suggested posts. The post you are looking for is typically the first result on the suggested post list on the 404 page. This is a temporary solution until we fix it so that it redirects correctly. Once we figure out the fix, we will post the fix. Thank you for your patience while we resolve these issues.

Based on our website statistics, it looks like our website was down for the last 10 days due to incorrect DNS records, specifically incorrect name server records for those technically inclined (DNS glue). What is really weird is that the website worked for over a month with the incorrect entries, and then stopped working. But that is typical of DNS glue issues, where some people will see the site just fine, while others cannot reach the website at all. For those who are less technically inclined, just be rest assured that we fixed the issue and our website is back up again. Enjoy the recipes and be sure to try them and rate them to let us know the ones you like. Also, be sure to leave comments and tell us what you like and what you didn’t like and any variations that you made. We are always interested in feedback and new ideas. Have a great day!

My wife, the Shy Home Chef, is a great cook, and she loves to experiment and create new delicious dishes. And I can attest to the deliciousness of the food by the pounds I have added since we got married. With my wife being Filipino, and I being an American, we both grew up with different cuisines. So now that we are married, we often try different things, ranging from traditional Filipino food she grew up with, to things I am more used to, such as Tex-Mex, Chinese, Italian or American dishes. And sometimes an interesting fusion of cuisines. We created this website so that we can share some of the great dishes we have discovered, and share our journey of finding great dishes that we both love. Except dishes with liver. She loves it, and I think I will pass. And mung beans. But the other stuff is great. She’s adding all the recipes to the site, and doing all the cooking in the kitchen. I just eat her food, comment on the blog, and make the site look pretty. So, I hope you enjoy our website, and be sure to comment and share. Thank you for visiting. Signed, The Husband of the Shy Home Chef
